Britain - a diminished state?
1945 Britain was in ruins following the Second World War. Devastating bombing and campaigning had left its imprint on the economy and society. Labour came to power, promising radical social reform under their leader, Attlee, who won a landslide victory in 1945. What can said, however, of Britain's perspectives in the early Cold War? How did their struggles with decolonisation and the efforts to foster a special relationship with the US impact their decisions over Berlin and the events of 1948-1949?
