US intervention in Latin America

The USA accused Moscow of using Cuba in order to extend its own power in Africa. Any form of developing rapproachment between the USA and Cuba was profoundly damaged by their interventions. Meanwhile , it became increasingly clear that the Reagan administration had carried out illegal or questionable activities in their aid of the Contras, arms sales to Iran and the CIA mining of Nicaraguan harbours.
