In the years following the Second World War, growing anti-communist sentiments permeated US politics and society. By 1950, Wisconsin Senator Joseph McCarthy (Republican) had taken the opportunity to highlight his suspicions of communist infiltration within the US senate. His attacks extended far and wide and his attack of high-profile military figures ultimately contributed to his downfall. To what extent, however, did McCarthy shape the period of anti-communist hysteria that is now referenced as 'McCarthyism' and to what extend did this change to a shift in US foreign policy.
To begin with use the PowerPoints and video commentary to cover the material. I would like you to use the 'students notes' which simply lay out the key details, and add to these with additional notes of interest from the PowerPoint/commentary and linked videos. This task should take approximately one double lesson (90 minutes).
