You need to know what happened in 1066, so there are timelines here and a comparative look at relative strengths. This includes groupwork exercises on the shieldwall for example. The DVD and accompanying worksheet on the battle itself is excellent. You then need to sit your first summative assessment or IST which is 'Why did William win the Battle of Hastings'. The card sort will help you to rank your reasons, whilst the mapping exercise should help your understanding of the battlefield itself. The IST support materials here include exemplars, templates, source materials and feedback provided to previous students. If you would like to expand your knowledge, try the poetry sheet and see if you can work out how the battle has been interpreted in this case.
