Commentary 

Domesday is seen to be the final method by which William retained control. It effectively placed a stop on twenty years of chaotic land acquisition. It was said to be so thorough in its scope and detail that it was equivalent to the final day of Judgement - so therefore became known as Domesday. 

You need to know what Domesday could have been used for by William, the reaction to it and what this tells you about the Norman position in England twenty years after the events of 1066.
